A one of its kind book in India on the incurable brain disorder Dementia, titled “Remember Me- You, Me And Dementia”., authored by ‘Dementia Care expert Sailesh Mishra, Founder of Silver Innings was launched on the occasion of World Mental Health Day recently.
The book is dedicated to all those who battle Dementia and to those family members who do their best to look after their loved one suffering from Dementia. Says Mishra “My mind might forget you, but my heart will always Remember You’.
Sailesh Mishra needs no introduction as most have been touched in one way or another by his commendable work in the field of Dementia. He is a social entrepreneur, mentor, and Founder of Silver Innings Group working towards creating an Elder Friendly World where Ageing becomes a Positive and Rewarding Experience. His venture, A1 Snehanjali, is the first ever 24×7 assisted living elder care home that helps and support persons with Dementia and their families and is considered a visionary project for Mumbai.
Chief Guest, Eminent Advocate Abha Singh launched the book in the presence of Guest of Honour: Mr. Prakash N. Borgaonkar- Director HelpAge India, Guest of Honour: Dr. Charles Pinto and other dignitaries. A handbook in English and Hindi on Elder Mental Health by Dr. Ravi Samuel and Silver Innings was also distributed to all. Interesting insights were shared on the subject by the eminent guests and this was followed by some entertainment. Entertainment included a Skit on Dementia by Navanita Parmar & group, Senior Citizens Dance by Sneh Kala Kendra, a 4 piece unplugged band that covered favourite Bollywood songs by Pramod Shetty’s band Nuts & Frets.

It is seen that more than the person suffering from Dementia, it is the caregiver who suffers from depression and dealing with guilt Heart warming stories by caregivers on how they battled this disease along with their loved ones as also poems expressing thoughts on Dementia forms a part of this book too. Other topics covered are understanding and respecting the person with Dementia, explaining to children, how to deal with aggression, depression, and way forward. This book which brings Dementia to the forefront of awareness is surely going to help understand more about Dementia, a condition that many of us are still unaware about and moreover have no idea where to go for help.
