The third edition of MET ( Material Engineering & Technology ) and HTS ( Heat Treat Show ) which commenced recently at Cidco Exhibition and Conference Centre, Vashi, Navi Mumbai has turned out to be a grand success. This three-day event is witnessing the presence of leaders from industry, government, and academia and provides the ideal platform for extremely futuristic technologies and processes to be taken forward and implemented. This event is the brainchild of ASM( A Society Of Materials ) India chapter.
Nitin Gadkari, Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Shipping, did the honours for this edition. Addressing the gathering, he stated that he was delighted by the fact that events of this nature would provide an ideal platform for industry, government, and academia to come together and work together for the progress of the nation in key areas like infrastructure and defence . He further added that innovation and research in the key and cited multiple examples of projects in countries like Malaysia. Among the other keynote speakers on this occasion was Sajjan Jindal of JSW, Shailendra Roy of L &T, Sunil Kulkarni of Mahindra & Mahindra, Pradeep Goyal, Chairman of MET and Dr. Frederick E . Schmidt, Chairperson, ASM International, and Prem Aurora, Secretary MET.
Gadkari ‘s well-known sense of humour was also on ample display as he opined “ I am neither a scientist, nor an engineer, but I have one small skill and that is getting things done“. He further elaborated that where there is a will, there is always a way and that he was confident that this event would pave the way for many path-breaking innovations.
Dr. Ashok Tiwari, General Secretary, MET, brought into sharp focus the widespread participation of industry giants like L&T, Reliance and JSW and the rapidly expanding and growing footprint of this mega event. Innovations in Material Science and its Engineering lead to improved Materials and solutions for technological, societal and environmental problems. Material Engineering has significantly moved, from only traditional materials (ferrous & nonferrous metals) to include a wide product range that encompasses ceramics, composites, engineered plastics, specialty chemicals, nanomaterials, electronic materials, biomaterials, etc. The list is endless and the line between various disciplines has become blurred.
Technological advancements in sectors like DEFENCE, ROADS & HIGHWAYS, SHIPPING, ENERGY, RAILWAY, AVIATION etc. have been possible because of innovations in materials with better properties suited to perform in extreme conditions. Selection of MATERIALS involves consideration of a number of diverse scientific, technological, environmental and commercial factors. A wider understanding and collaboration between the industry, PSU’s and scientists is essential for the manufacture of critical raw Materials. High-performance Materials, developed and manufactured will determine the economy of Nations.
The MET & HTS are two important and the largest collaborative platforms of all Indian and International Material Engineering Technology and allied Industries. The MET & HTS 2018 will focus on Defense, Infrastructure (Energy; Roads; Railways; Shipping; Aviation) and Heat Treatment. MET & HTS 2018 being organized by ASM International – India Chapter along with TAFCON, is an ideal platform for the organizations to showcase their latest achievements, initiatives, technologies, machinery & equipment, R&D, logistics, communication, safety and health aspect of Defense, Infrastructure, Heat Treatment, and allied industries
It is a complete and integrated business platform delivering tangible business benefits for the exhibitors, delegates and industry visitors. In addition to the strong business opportunities, the show also hosts high-level International Conferences; Innovation Pavilion; B2B Meetings and Student Programs etc.
The event is being supported by the Ministries of Coal; Mines; Steel; Commerce & Industry, Defense; Railways; Shipping; Road Transport & Highways; MSME; Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; Department of Science & Technology; Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.
