The Indo-Italian love affair has been a strong and heady one. We’ve fused their pasta, sauces, and pizzas into our cuisine while they’ve gone on to celebrate our music, our spices and along with the way, our Cinema! To honour Indian Cinema, 2001 festival Director Selvaggia Velo initiated the first River to River Florence Indian Film Festival dedicated solely to showcasing films from India. Each year R2R screens beautiful films sent from around the country and hosts some stellar personalities from Indian Cinema as special guests. These include Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Kabir Bedi, Irrfan Khan and Deepa Mehta and Anurag Kashyap among others.
The Festival takes place under the aegis of Regione Toscana and Fondazione Sistema Toscana. Under the Patronage of the Embassy of India, this is the first festival in the world totally devoted to films from and about India and the only one in Italy.
Festival Director Selvaggia Velo is currently visiting India to meet filmmakers and invite new festival entries across categories. The festival accepts 2016 and 2017 feature films, short films and documentaries from and about India.
The 17th edition of R2R will be held in Florence between December 7 to 12, 2017.
